Former VeriSign executive John Donovan has officially been announced as the new CTO at AT&T. We say officially because it was apparent several days ago to GigaOM and at least late last week to others on AT&T's conference call about LTE that Donovan was on board, but the company made no official announcement until yesterday.
It is not clear why Donovan's hiring was so muted, since he comes with impressive experience in the IP and content arena from VeriSign. Former AT&T CTO Chris Rice is now an executive in charge of shared services at AT&T.
