SPOTLIGHT: FairPoint deal nears one year in limbo


Not much happened during the holiday break, but two of the biggest stories had to do with FairPoint Communications' pending $2.7 billion acquisition of Verizon Communications properties in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. First, Vermont regulators voted against the deal, though they invited the companies to submit a revised proposal. Then, the Maine Public Utilities Commission, which was set to act on the deal the day after Christmas, postponed its deliberations until early this year.

This proposed acquisition is about two weeks away from celebrating its one-year anniversary as just that--a proposal.
