SPOTLIGHT: Industry forums push IP backhaul


The IP/MPLS Forum and the Metro Ethernet Forum conducted an IP backhaul interoperability demonstration for wireless carriers at last week's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and plan to conduct a similar demonstration at the CTIA's Wireless 2008 event. Last week's interoperability event showcased 15 vendors testing more than 85 devices in the interest of outlining a clear migration path for wireless carriers from the time division multiplexing backhaul solutions used today to IP-based backhaul. Pseudowires have been touted as one such migration solution, though some believe the interim nature of pseudowires as a solution has kept wireless carriers from developing a true road-map to IP backhaul.
