SPOTLIGHT: VON: Telcos still positioning


In his semi-annual VON keynote, VoIP promoter Jeff Pulver advised telcos that they have a place in the VoIP universe, and that they shouldn't dismiss the recent interaction between VoIP and social networks. Traditional telcos may still be looking for the right position to take in the VoIP market, but it appears more and more of them are less satisfied only with being bandwidth providers, and want to compete for VoIP customers. Meanwhile, it's true telcos are apt to dismiss VoIP/social network activity as a demographic fad, but if they do, it may give some struggling VoIP service providers a leg up.
