SureWest revenue up 19 percent

Independent telco SureWest Communications reported $2.5 million in profit for the first quarter, up from less than $300,000 for the same quarter a year ago. The company also posted revenue of $60.9 million, representing a 19 percent increase from the $51.3 million posted for the first quarter of 2008. SureWest officials said broadband results were helped by a boost in the Sacramento area housing market where the Roseville, Calif., telco operates.
