Telefónica Spain will use Nokia's Deepfield Cloud analytics platform to improve visibility and automation in real time in its Fusion network.
With virtualization and software-defined networking, carrier networks are becoming more complex, which means service providers need to automate cloud and network analytics in order to provide service assurance and improved performance. Telefónica Spain's Fusion network uses various software-defined networking components to provision internet video for its pay TV subscribers.
Deepfield, which Nokia bought two years ago, is a specialist in real-time analytics for IP network performance management and security. With Deepfield Cloud, Telefónica engineers have visibility into application demand and fluctuating traffic patterns by supporting advanced IP network engineering and assurance uses with automation.
The Deepfield platform also uses Nokia's Cloud Genome technology that can track more than 50,000 cloud applications and over-the-top services.

Online video consumption continues to grow around the world, and its particularly popular in Spain where three out of 10 households consumed online content last year, according to Spanish regulator CNMC. Spain has approximately 5.9 million video subscribers.
While cloud applications and services account for more than 60% of global network traffic today, according to Deepfield's analytics, service providers have limited telemetry into the applications that are running on their networks. Without analytics, service providers also aren't able to gauge the impact that network performance has on end-user applications and subscriber user experiences, according to Nokia.
"By correlating the Deepfield Cloud Genome 'map of the internet' with telemetry network data, Nokia provides operators with visibility into video services and cloud applications performance throughout their network, all in software - without the need for expensive probes, taps and monitors in the network itself," said Kevin Macaluso, general manager of Nokia Deepfield, in a statement. "This allows Nokia customers to insightfully drive automation for greater network efficiency to help assure quality and enhance security."
