tw telecom's Ethernet services enable Core NAP to expand its service reach

tw telecom (Nasdaq: TWTC) has won a multi-year contract to provide Core NAP last-mile Ethernet services that will allow the data center provider to expand their reach in the Austin, Texas market.

An established data center and managed service provider to small and large businesses, what stands out about Core NAP's is that they have the largest number of network peering and transit points in central Texas, meaning that they can provide low latency services to their customers.

Having already worked with tw telecom for over eight years, the new agreement is all about scale. Kenneth Smith, CEO at Core NAP, said that "tw telecom's business Ethernet platform allows us to reach an additional 350 buildings in Austin and gives us the scalability to grow and expand with our customer's connectivity, colocation and cloud server needs much more quickly and cost-effectively than ever before."

Extending services to data center operators is becoming an emerging trend that carriers tw telecom continues to tap into. In addition to Core NAP, tw telecom has similar agreements in place with Phoenix NAP. Data centers may have the advantage of space, power, and being neutral but what they need are connections with other local providers like tw telecom to reach their customer's diverse locations.

However, tw telecom is not alone in providing connectivity to data centers as other providers such as AT&T, Cox Business, Global Crossing and Mammoth Networks are also tapping into this opportunity.
