tw telecom scores 51 site IP VPN deal

tw telecom has announced a 51-site IP VPN deal with Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union in Tampa. The installation includes off-site data center connectivity, Ethernet Internet services and voice services.

The multi-year contract enables Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union, the largest full-service credit union in Florida, to upgrade its network, improve member services and reduce monthly communications bills to the tune of $40,000 per month. New, faster circuits enable data backup in about 20 minutes, compared to four hours previously.

Suncoast's old network was a point-to-point design and has been replaced by an IP VPN with Class of Service (CoS) and a fully-meshed SONET-protected network. CoS is important as it allows Suncoast to prioritize critical transmissions as needed and to give priority to voice traffic on the network. tw telecom is building fiber into eight new locations for the network, including a 120-seat call center and a remote data center.

The win is likely to cause some heartburn for Verizon - the incumbent phone company in Tampa - and underscores tw telecom's continuous move to add more enterprise business.
