US Signal, a competitive provider serving various Midwest markets, has added a backup capability to its growing Cloud Hosting service portfolio. With its Virtual Machine (VM)-based backup service, US Signal can replicate virtual services daily and store them in a remote, geographically diverse data center that it owns and operates.
Businesses that have been affected by an outage or event can restore corrupted or malfunctioning virtual machines up to one month from the incident that compromised it.
Matt VanderZwaag, director of product development for US Signal, said in a release that "If a virtual machine needs to be restored, all it takes is an email or phone call to our NOC [network operations center] to immediately begin restoral procedures."
One of the selling points of the VM service is that it can reduce costs.
Customers won't be required to use third-party software to backup and store their virtual infrastructure or purchase and maintain software needed for some backup solutions. What's more, they can alleviate their IT staff from having to manage backup and recovery by handing over that function to US Signal's NOC technicians.
US Signal may not have the same high profile as larger telcos like AT&T (NYSE: T), but it has been building up a cloud network services portfolio that runs over its 14,000-route mile fiber network in a number of Tier 1, 2 and 3 markets that will resonate with businesses looking for an alternative cloud provider.
