UTC President and CEO Bill Moroney to retire this year

William Moroney, President and CEO of the Utilities Telecom Council (UTC), will retire from the industry group this year after running the industry organization for over 13 years.

During his tenure, Moroney oversaw a number of key programs at the UTC to enhance member benefits, including regulatory and advocacy efforts and other programs to address smart grid technical standards and cybersecurity; international growth through locally lead organizations in Canada and Europe; and the creation of the UtiliSite Council, to address utility partnerships with wireless carriers and the Smart Networks Council, to coordinate UTC's smart grid activities.

In addition, the UTC also conducted a joint study with Verizon Communications (NYSE: VZ) on their unique telecom and IT requirements.

To ensure a smooth transition, Moroney will remain as President and CEO of the UTC until the organization finds a replacement.
