Verizon adding more standard, HD channels this summer

Verizon Communications will begin early next month to add more than 60 new channels, including 25 more HDTV channels, to its FiOS TV lineup. The company is getting closer to its goal of having 150 HD channels by the end of this year, a push that it is making as HD channels are becoming a serious competition factor, but also as HD bandwidth requirements are taking a toll on telco and cable TV infrastructures.

Depending on market, Verizon already offers anywhere between 52 and 65 HD channels, the company said in a statement. FiOS TV currently has more than 400 channels total. Also included in this summer's roll-out are 15 multicultural channels.
