Verizon adds upstate NY college basketball to FiOS lineup

Verizon (NYSE: VZ) is adding more local content flavor to its FiOS service in New York's capital region: It will soon begin carrying some Siena College, University at Albany and Syracuse University basketball games this winter thanks to a new agreement with Time Warner Cable Sports (NYSE: TWC).

By establishing this agreement, FiOS customers will be able to see a number of the games in the upstate region that are currently not on national TV, including the Siena versus Fairfield game that begins Friday at 7:00 p.m.

FiOS subscribers will be able to watch tonight's game and others on channels 1 and the HD version on channel 501.

Similar to a deal struck last September with the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association to broadcast local high school sport events, the drive here is all about providing giving users the local content that is meaningful to them.
