VON: Should wireline fear femtocells?

A panel at the Fall VOn event in Boston this week explored the evolution of femtocell technology and how it might change the home network environment. It looks like femtocells will benefit mobile carriers and telco that have vertically integrated wireline and wireless units, but other wireline telcos may suffer and see their role reduced to that of a pure bandwidth provider (the politically incorrect term for that is "dumb pipe").
