Windstream automates cloud provisioning with new tool

Windstream (Nasdaq: WIN) has introduced a new automation tool in its Hosted Solutions subsidiary it says will reduce the time it takes to provision cloud services.

Customers will be able to provision computing and bandwidth resources on-demand from the Hosted Solutions public cloud.

The service provider claims that what differentiates its offering from others is that it allows automated deployment for customized solutions that can meet the specific needs of each enterprise customer.

It achieves this by creating what it calls a self-contained enterprise virtual data center (EVDC) unique to each customer. All of the EVDCs are then configured with their own operating systems, virtual machines and network configuration to fit into a customer's environment.

While the system is focused on offering rapid provisioning, Windstream said it does not compromise custom solution designs. Other providers that have adopted preconfigured network containers often don't address customer-specific needs.

One of the key provisions of the tool is rapid service turn up. The telco claims that the traditional implementation time has been reduced from days to mere hours, allowing an enterprise to get a public cloud environment "within a single business day."

From a broader perspective, the cloud automation system enables the company to develop a foundation to provide future automation and additional portal enhancements for its enterprise customers.
