Windstream reaches 1M broadband customers

Windstream has announced that it now serves 1 million high speed Internet customers across its 16 state network.

The company added approximately 21,000 new high-speed Internet customers in the first quarter of 2009, handily beating the 16,000 or so new customers added in the fourth quarter of 2008. Windstream's broadband offerings range from 1.5 Mbps to 12 Mbps and come in a variety of customer bundles.

Internet service is available to around 88 percent of Windstream's 3 million access lines, so a little quick calculator punching indicates that the company has about a 38 percent penetration rate out of the 2.64 million customers that can potentially get service. Overall broadband penetration at the end of 2008 was 32 percent of total access lines and 49 percent of primary residential lines
