Windstream (Nasdaq: WIN) continues to see the fruits of business service labor pay off as the company reported that the segment's revenues in the fourth quarter of 2013 rose $4 million sequentially to $920 million.
Due to growth in integrated voice and data services and data center services, business data and integrated services grew more than 3 percent year-over-year to $412 million. For the full year 2013, Windstream generated $3.7 billion in business service revenues, up 1 percent year-over-year.
The service provider also saw strong gains in consumer broadband service revenues, which rose 3 percent year-over-year to $119 million. However, overall consumer service revenues declined 5 percent to $318 million.
One area that continues to be a drag on Windstream's overall revenue mix is wholesale, which declined 15 percent year-over-year to $143 million as a result of a decline in switched access revenue from lower intrastate access rates and fewer minutes of use. For the year, wholesale revenues were $594 million, down 16 percent year-over-year.
Overall company revenues and sales declined 3 percent year-over-year to $1.5 billion in the fourth quarter. Even with the overall decline, strategic service revenues were $4.3 billion for the year, up 2 percent year-over-year.
Windstream said that while it expects continued growth in business revenue and improved trends in consumer and wholesale revenues in 2014, total revenue for the year will be within a range of a 2.5 percent decline to a 1 percent increase as compared to 2013 revenue.
Shares of Windstream were trading at $7.92, down 1 cent or 0.13 percent, in Thursday morning trading on the Nasdaq stock exchange.
