XO increases metro network reach into Minneapolis-Saint Paul area

XO Communications (OTC BB: XOHO) is taking its metro network into the Minneapolis-Saint Paul to simultaneously sign up new customers and address multi-site businesses that need network service in the area.

By expanding the reach of the 19,000-mile network and establish additional points of presence, XO says it will more than double the addressable business market that are looking for an alternative provider across the Twin Cities area.

As part of this latest network expansion effort, XO will increase its network reach across the Twin Cities northern and eastern suburbs including Anoka, Blaine, Crystal, Fridley, Maplewood, New Brighton and Shoreview and adds 190 route miles to the XO metro network.

While XO will likely extend its fiber network into the area to deliver Ethernet and other high bandwidth services, the reality is that they don't have fiber into every area building, nor can they afford to bring it to every building.  Similar to other network expansions XO has done over the past year, the service provider's network expansion will include a broader deployment of Ethernet over Copper (EoC) technology in order to make its Ethernet services more widely available to businesses.
