Zayo has added another piece to its growing colocation business zColo by reaching a deal to acquire Dallas-based data center provider CoreXchange for an undisclosed sum.
By acquiring CoreXchange, zColo will add one data center, located at 8600 Harry Hines Blvd., to its portfolio. It will also gain an additional 12,000 square feet in CoreXchange's suite at its existing data center in the Dallas Infomart at 1950 N. Stemmons Freeway.
This deal will give zColo over 18,000 square feet of total data center space and expands its national data center footprint to a total of 27 locations. Under the terms of the deal, Zayo will also take over ColoUnlimited, CoreXchange's online service that provides customers an online destination to order colocation services.
Initially operating ColoUnlimited in the Dallas market, the service will be eventually integrated into Zayo's Tranzact Internet portal in the second quarter of 2014. Customers will be able to get access to transactional ordering capabilities across zColo's national data center footprint.
Dallas continues to be another big growth target for Zayo.
Having these new facilities will give zColo and Zayo's overall growing customer base another option to establish or enhance their own metro presence in Dallas. Today, the service provider's network spans over 500 route miles and reaches more than 250 on-net buildings, giving customers the option to connect to other locations via its metro fiber footprint. They can also connect to other markets via its long-haul fiber routes.
"Expanding the zColo footprint not only provides more alternatives for colocation in the Dallas market, but provides easier access for customers to tap into Zayo's international Bandwidth Infrastructure footprint," said Chris Morley, president at Zayo Group, in a release.
While much of Zayo's acquisition activity has been focused on purchasing regional fiber providers, the service provider has been just as active in purchasing new data center assets. Besides CoreXchange, the service provider also bought CoreNAP, which immediately gave zColo a presence in Austin. Outside of Texas, the service provider expanded its network in Miami, Fla., at 36 NE 2nd St.
