Citing personal reasons for his departure, Erickson will continue to be active in his role as co-COO until late July. As previously announced, he will present at the Stephens Spring Investment Conference at the New York Palace on Tuesday, June 7.

Dan Caruso, Chairman and CEO of Zayo Group said in a release that "Matt's departure affords us the opportunity to combine all these functions under Chris, who is well prepared for the COO scope."

In his co-COO role, Morley most recently oversaw Zayo's Dark Fiber Solutions, Network Connectivity, and Cloud and Colo. Erickson has been responsible for global sales, marketing, and customer service functions.

Before founding Zayo, Caruso and Erickson partnered to take ICG Communications private, in a deal that they said had a very strong outcome for investors and management. Erickson first met Caruso at Level 3 Communications, when Caruso was Group VP of Level 3's product and marketing organization.

This latest management transition comes at a time when Zayo has been seeing growing momentum in new customer installations with wireless operators, enterprises and content providers.

During the company's fiscal third quarter, overall gross installs were $5.9 million and net installs were $2.1 million, driven by record low churn of percent.

A key area of strength has been the dark fiber segment where Zayo reported a total of $144.3 million in revenues with $115.2 million in dark fiber and $29.1 million of mobile infrastructure revenues.
