Verizon Business’ Public Sector unit today announced a nearly $400 million Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) contract with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to help the bureau modernize its IT infrastructure.
The contract with the FBI includes 24/7 direct access to Verizon’s IT development team to address critical problems or discuss potential system enhancements, enabling the FBI to support a wide range of applications such as cloud computing, video and image transmissions, and data applications that require dynamic high-bandwidth capacity.
“Building on nearly 20 years of partnership with the Bureau, this next phase will provide stable solutions and a modern network that is faster, more scalable and secure that will help the FBI achieve its mission,” said Maggie Hallbach, the new SVP of Public Sector at Verizon, in a statement.
As part of the EIS task order, the Verizon Public Sector team will integrate mission-critical technologies and processes into the FBI’s existing IT infrastructure to meet the agency’s specific needs at key FBI locations.
Verizon technologies will include Ethernet access capabilities and global Virtual Private Network Services (VPNS) with a Verizon 4G LTE and 5G Nationwide cellular fixed wireless access arrangement.
Asked if the FBI will use fixed wireless access outside of the U.S., Verizon responded in an email: “We have several capabilities available to the FBI through the task order from which they can choose to engage based on their requirements and needs.”
In March Verizon snagged a trio of task orders from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to upgrade network infrastructure and services at the Pentagon, National Capital Region and Fort Belvoir. Collectively, those contracts are worth $966.5 million, making the announcement one of the largest wins Verizon has secured through the government’s EIS technology procurement program.
