Exabytes require telecom investment

Network traffic needs are usually discussed in terms of megabytes or gigabytes of data, but rich multimedia services will create immense amounts of network traffic in the coming years that will best be measured in exabytes, or trillions of megabytes.

That "exaflood" will require more network infrastructure investment, according to Bret Swanson, senior fellow at the Discovery Institute. Sounds like music to the ears of those big vendors that are having trouble getting their mega-deals to pay off.
