There are more than one million commercial buildings and data centers across the U.S. that have on-net access to fiber-based network services, according to Emerging Networks Service (ENS) Fiber Plus research from Vertical Systems Group. While fiber availability increased to 64% for medium and large buildings, small building fiber growth in 2019 accounted for two-thirds of the new fiber-lit sites.

ENS Fiber's U.S. Fiber Lit landscape research defines the medium and large fiber-lit sector as companies that have 20 or more employees while the small business sector has 20 or fewer employees.

The fiber research served as the foundation for Vertical System Group's U.S. Fiber-Lit Buildings Leaderboard, which was announced last week. Rounding out the top five on Vertical System Group's Leaderboard, were, in order, AT&T, Verizon, Spectrum Enterprise, CenturyLink and Comcast.
