France Telecom names Stephane Richard to deputy CEO post

France Telecom made it official this week that Stephane Richard will become the telco's Deputy CEO beginning in January 2010. Richard's appointment was submitted by France Telecom's current chairman and CEO, Didier Lombard, who has come under fire by political groups over the ongoing raft of employee suicides, as part of the succession process.

France Telecom’s board of directors said that Richard, who will succeed Lombard as company CEO when his term ends in 2011, will continue to carry out his duties as head of operations for France Telecom.

But as Lombard prepares to hand the torch to Richard, the pair will need to develop a plan to revitalize employee morale in the hopes that they can prevent more discord and suicides from occurring.
