Global Crossing brings John Sutton aboard to sharpen its public sector mission

Global Crossing's (Nasdaq: GLBC) appointment of John Sutton as EVP and General manager, federal sector is a clear sign that the service provider wants more of the federal government's business.

Reporting directly to John Legere, CEO of Global Crossing, Sutton will be in charge of Global Crossing's newly created Federal Sector unit, which is one of its five customer facing units (CFUs). Currently, Global Crossing runs four other CFUs serving North America, Latin America, EMEA/UK and the global carrier market. As the service provider adopted more of a regional focus in recent years, Global Crossing decided to reorganize the company into CFUs that provide more of a regional, customer-facing focus.

Sutton comes with the goods to help the service provider meet its federal government goals. Most recently, Sutton was the VP of the Defense and Intelligence Business Unit in the Mission, Cyber and Technology Group at ManTech, Inc. Before ManTech, Sutton was a Group Vice President at AT&T Government Solutions, where he was responsible for business operations and growth in Department of Defense and Intelligence markets.

By no means is Global Crossing a public sector novice. In addition to being on AT&T's GSA Networx team, Global Crossing provides services via GSA Schedule 70, GSA Region 4, and Juniper GSA Schedule through Immix.
