Integrated access vendor U4EA acquires NextHop

U4EA Technologies, a vendor of integrated access products, said it has acquired NextHop Technologies, a maker of WiFi access point and controller software, for an undisclosed sum. U4EA operates in the increasingly significant area of multi-service or converged gateway devices, and has been doing a bit of consolidating at the small end of the telecom vendor market over the last several months since landing new funding and naming a new CEO last summer. U4EA, privately-held and based in Fremont, Calif., acquired J6 Technology late last year, and just last month rolled out a multi-service gateway product for small business customers.
