Lightower Fiber Networks is employing Ciena's (Nasdaq: CIEN) ActivSpan 565 Advanced Services Platform to deliver native transport solution for a global entertainment and broadcast company.
In this particular application, the end-user needed a solution that would replace its current process of compressing and decompressing video signals at multiple sites.
By leveraging Ciena's video transport solution, Lightower said it will be able to support high definition video signals, including 3 Gbps HD-SDI because the solution automatically adapts to the signals being transmitted to multiple studio locations.
This deployment has significance for both Lightower and Ciena alike. For Lightower, which has continued to expand its fiber network through acquisitions, the win validates its strategy of building a network that can support very high bandwidth applications like broadcast video.
For Ciena, the deal with Lightower is another point illustrating how they can better equip their carrier customers' customers in bandwidth hungry verticals like the broadcast video industry through their BizConnect global partner program.
