MetTel announced today that it has secured a $58 million contract with the U.S. Marine Corps Recruiting Command (MCRC), an organization operated by the U.S. Marine Corps. MetTel will be the incumbent contractor spearheading MCRC’s Nationwide Internet Protocol Network Service.
MetTel’s goal is to provide MCRC with a robust network infrastructure capable of supporting a variety of digital services, including telephony and video collaboration. The provider will upgrade MCRC’s existing internet service bandwidth, planning to provide Internet Protocol Voice Services and Wi-Fi to almost 1,500 MCRC locations.
Robert Dapkiewicz, senior vice president and general manager of MetTel Federal, said in a statement that MCRC choosing MetTel “speaks to their confidence in our ability to transform their network and help modernize their legacy voice services through IP-based services.”
The contract was awarded through the General Service Administration’s Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) technology procurement program. The program helps government agencies modernize their IT infrastructure, with contractors providing services such as VPN, voice and Ethernet.
The federal government is in the process of transitioning its telecommunication contracts to the EIS system. All agencies with telecom purchase agreements must transition to EIS contracts by May 31, 2023.
MetTel touts a unique geographic reach in the telecom industry, by using network-to-network interfaces (NNIs) and partnering with both local and long distance telephone carriers. MetTel also provides its clients with access to its EIS-based Federal Portal. The Portal allows agencies to manage billing, data analytics and other features through a user-friendly web interface.
Since MetTel was awarded its EIS contract in 2017, MetTel has obtained contracts with over a dozen federal agencies. MCRC previously procured a contract with MetTel in 2019, in which MetTel updated broadband services at MCRC recruiting stations. MetTel bumped up download speeds from 1.5 Mbps to 25 Mbps.
Additionally, MetTel secured a $722 million deal in 2020 with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). The VA selected MetTel as a provider for its National Local Exchange Carrier Services for the Next Generation (NLEC-NG) contract.
Over the past two years, MetTel has announced IT Communications projects with city and federal agencies. Its total contract value amounts to $2 billion after all options.
