tw telecom builds videoconferencing presence with BT, Cisco partnership

tw telecom (Nasdaq: TWTC) is putting its nationwide business Ethernet and MPLS IP VPN services to work as a foundation to deliver new TelePresence conferencing services. To deliver the new videoconferencing service to U.S.-based businesses, the competitive service provider has struck a pact with both BT Conferencing and Cisco.

Targeted specifically at business users that have Cisco TelePresence equipment--a prospect that Cisco enhanced with its recently completed purchase of TANDBERG--the new service will allow companies to conduct video conferencing sessions.

Customers that subscribe to the service will be connected to BT's Global Video Exchange conferencing platform through a tw telecom MPLS IP VPN connection, while Cisco and VAR partners will install the necessary Cisco TelePresence equipment at the customer premise.
