Verizon's (NYSE: VZ) new agreement with CA Technologies (Nasdaq: CA) where the IT services company will offer its IT management software over Verizon's Computer as a Service (CaaS) offering illustrates the idea that enterprise customers are embracing want to use software in an on-demand, Software as a Service (SaaS) delivery model.
Under the terms of the new partnership, CA Technologies will host its Clarity PPM project and portfolio management solution on Verizon CaaS.
Verizon's hosted software delivery option will serve as a complement to CA Technologies' on-premise software delivery and its on-demand SaaS model for their CA Service Desk Manager on Demand and CA Clarity PPM On Demand.
"Our agreement with CA is focused on Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) so it is a computing based platform and CA has chosen to partner with Verizon and take their Clarity software to market utilizing the Verizon cloud platform in their hosted solution," said Chris Gesell, chief cloud strategist, Verizon in an interview with Fierce Telecom.
Since each of its enterprise customer's use of cloud will vary, Robert Machnacki, VP, CA Services, CA Technologies, said that "From a CA Technology perspective, we recognize that our customers have varying needs and demands on how they actually want to use and consume their software applications," he said. "Our goal is to deliver that software the way the customer wants it whether it's on premise, on demand SaaS or hosting."
Served up in Verizon's cloud infrastructure, CA Technologies' customers will continue to hold their software licenses with the option to either configure the solutions themselves or have CA configure the solutions. CA said that the partnership will provide two benefits for its customers: CA can monitor and manage the application database and platform and they can cut hardware maintenance and other associated cooling and power costs.
"The software delivery option complements our traditional on-premise and growing on demand business and the agreement with Verizon to host in their CaaS environment provides our customers control over the software assets they got licensed and it also delivers the businesses agility and productivity they need to stay competitive," Machnacki said.
