Verizon (NYSE: VZ) continues to carve out a wholesale niche in the cloud services market as the service provider's wholesale division on Thursday inked an agreement with Princeton Hosted Solutions.
Princeton, a competitive cloud-based service provider, will resell Terremark's Enterprise cloud infrastructure-as-a-service offering. This offering gives businesses a dedicated pool of information technology resources, including processing, memory and storage, that customers can self manage for virtual server deployments.
This agreement will complement Princeton's established portfolio of data center, hosted cloud PBX, and Enterprise Cloud Server services.
The key message here for Princeton is obviously scale. Rather than build out another solution, partnering with Verizon and Terremark means that Princeton can quickly expand its cloud service portfolio to better target the automotive, health care and legal vertical sectors it currently serves in its New York metro market.
For Princeton's customers, a majority of whom don't have deep IT service knowledge, the benefit is they have the option of offloading premise-based functions like storage to a third party like Princeton that's backed by the broad reach that only a partner like Verizon/Terremark can bring to the table.
"Many of our customers still rely on premises-based computing solutions and lack the dedicated staff and capital funding required to upgrade their IT infrastructure," said Brad Bono, president, Princeton Hosted Solutions, in a news release.
While the cloud services industry and the wholesale opportunity is still nascent, Verizon has tapped into an emerging trend. In April, it signed a similar agreement with CornerStone Telephone Company to resell Terremark's cloud services to its respective business customer base.
