Verizon serves up $79 Black Friday 1 Gig Fios promotion

Verizon is going to offer a competitively priced promotion to eligible 1 Gbps Fios customers during the Black Friday shopping period, reflecting an effort by the telco to lure FTTH customers to higher speeds where it faces cable competition.

As part of the five-day promotion, which will start on Thanksgiving and run through midnight Monday, November 27, Verizon will offer new customers who order Fios Gigabit Connection, Custom TV and Phone online for $79.99 a month.

Customers who commit to a two-year agreement can also choose a new Google Home, Nest Thermostat E, or a $100 Target Gift Card.

The bundle also comes with SHOWTIME and Multi-Room DVR service for two years.

Verizon will offer the $79.99 a month Fios Gigabit Connection bundle with two-year price guarantee plus SHOWTIME and multi-room DVR service for two years will be available throughout the holiday season.

Offering a $79.99 promotion is a likely move by the telco to battle cable competitors, particularly Comcast, which has been aggressively rolling out its DOCSIS 3.1-based 1 Gbps services to customers across its network footprint.

Fios continues to be a big part of Verizon’s overall wireline revenue mix, a trend that continued into the third-quarter 2017.

Total Fios revenue grew 4.8% year over year. During the quarter, Verizon added 66,000 new Fios internet subscribers but lost 18,000 Fios video customers.

On the internet side, Fios Gigabit Connection continues to gain traction with customers, but the service provider did not break out how many customers subscribed to the 1 Gbps service.
