Verizon targets FiOS TV shopping habits with History Channel app

Verizon (NYSE: VZ) has found a way to appeal to consumers' online spending habits by enabling FiOS TV users to purchase products they see on the TV screen through its new History Shop App.

With this application, FiOS TV subscriber will be able to watch A+E Network's History Channel and purchase products related to some of its well known shows, including Pawn Stars, American Pickers, and Ice Road Truckers from their remote control.

The new application was developed in partnership with Delivery Agent, which maps products with specific television content. If a user was watching Pawn Stars, for example, they could use their FiOS remote to buy a number of products such as a classic Schwinn bike, vintage consumer electronics from Crosley, Civil War and presidential memorabilia from The Franklin Mint or the complete season of the show on DVD.

Users watching the History Channel will be able to access the application by clicking on the History icon on the top right of the TV screen. From there, users will see items for purchase on the right side of the screen while the program continues to run on the left.
