Michael Tighe, a well-known Verizon (NYSE: VZ) executive, is joining AboveNet (NYSE: ABVT) as the service provider's new VP of marketing.
Based in AboveNet's Mahwah, N.J. office, Tighe will report to Rajiv Datta, COO of AboveNet.
In his new position, Tighe will oversee AboveNet's global marketing communications, public relations, strategic marketing, product development and training functions.
Before coming to AboveNet, Tighe served in a number of senior level positions at Verizon, including Director of Ethernet and IP Product Management at Verizon Business where he helped grow the telco's Ethernet and MPLS portfolio from inception to $350 million. During his tenure at Verizon, he also served as the chairman of the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) from 2006-2008.
His experience in creating profitable Ethernet and data center product strategies will come in handy as the company pursues new opportunities for its high bandwidth, low-latency connectivity solutions with AboveNet's enterprise and carrier customers.
