Why you should care: Vimpelcom is rumored to have made a bid to acquire its fast-growing fellow Russian firm, wireline provider Golden Telecom. Whether the deal is happening or not, Vimpelcom appears to be one of several international mobile carriers interested in buying its way into the wireline world.
