XO Communications beefs up its Phoenix network presence

Seeing a growing demand from its multi-location customers for more IP-based services, XO Communications (OTC BB: XOHO.OB) is expanding its network presence across the Phoenix, AZ metro area.

Similar to other expansions the competitive carrier has taken over the past year in its Southern California and Seattle, Wash. markets, XO is simultaneously expanding the reach of its 19,000-mile network and establishing new points of presence across the region.

Reaching across the eastern and metro area of Phoenix in Chandler, Gilbert and Mesa, XO's metro network expansion will add more than 130 route miles to its network and provides direct access to 200 additional buildings.

To fill in potential fiber gaps in the buildings it is reaching, XO has also expanded its Ethernet over Copper (EoC) deployment across its Phoenix network.

Interestingly, XO's dedication to leveraging Ethernet over Copper has, according to Vertical Systems Group's mid-year 2010 Ethernet market share report, contributed to its rising Ethernet port share.
