ZyXEL launches VDSL2 home gateways; U.S. broadband subscriber numbers grow sevenfold

> ZyXEL has launched its anticipated VSG family of VDSL2 home gateways. These include wireless-N and dual WAN access, and two products--the VSG1432 and VSG1435--offer built-in home phone network alliance (HPNA) over coax so customers can run IPTV over their home networks. News release.

> High speed data drove Atlantic Broadband revenues, which increased by 4.8 percent in the third quarter, from $75.6 million during the same period last year to $79.2 million. The cable operator even saw a slight increase in telephone subscriber revenue of 0.8 percent. News release.

> WiFi software and services provider Boingo Wireless and South Korea's KT (NYSE: KT) have completed a network integration that gives Boingo subscribers access to 36,000 hotspots across the peninsula. News release.

> Carphone Warehouse Europe (LSE: CPW.L) naturally saw strong demand for smartphones in the past six months ending Sept. 30 that kept its revenue growing, particularly in the UK. Revenues jumped 56 percent year on year to GBP 44 million ($71 million). Its connection volumes across the continent fell 2.9 percent to 5.7 million. Story.

And finally... broadband subscriptions among U.S. households grew sevenfold from 2001 to 2009, a new Commerce Dept. analysis reported by the Washington Post reveals. The percentage of homes using broadband grew from 9.2 percent to 63.5 percent in that period. Story.
