Alcatel-Lucent is once again dipping into BT's (NYSE: BT) 21CN talent pool by appointing George Nazi as a new member of its Quality Assurance and Customer Care team.
Reporting to Janet Davidson, executive vice president of Alcatel-Lucent and president of Quality Assurance and Customer Care, Nazi will be based in Paris, France.
Nazi is best known for his role in advancing BT's 21st Century Network transformation program (21CN). During his tenure at BT, Nazi served as President, 21CN & Global Networks & Computing Infrastructure where he not only oversaw a 3,000-person staff, but also managed the interaction between the 21CN program and BT's operational and customer-facing market units BT Retail and BT Openreach.
Prior to his tenure at BT, Nazi held various executive and planning roles at the former WorldCom (now Verizon Business) and Level 3 where he led the integration of many of their various acquisitions.
In announcing the new appointment, which will be effective on Feb. 15, Ben Verwaayen, CEO of Alcatel-Lucent said in a release that Nazi's work in overseeing and building large networks will be a key component in helping the return to profitability.
"Alcatel-Lucent is stepping up the pace on its road to recovery and is bringing in a proven senior executive with deep and broad experience in our industry to enhance our ability to execute on our strategy and deliver on our commitments to our customers," he said. "George brings world-class expertise and a proven track record on managing and deploying complex networks."
Nazi's appointment is one of many that Verwaayen, a former BT executive himself, has made at Alcatel-Lucent since taking over as CEO in September 2008. Other notable management appointments include: Stephen Carter as CMO; and Victor Agnellini as senior vice president, transformation.
