The U.S. Marine Corps in Quantico, Va., has enlisted CenturyLink (NYSE: CTL) to help with its voice, data and network telecommunications infrastructure service.
In a deal worth $8.5 million to the carrier, CenturyLink has been assigned to provide a team of IT specialists to work directly with more than 20,000 Marine Corps personnel at the Quantico and Washington, D.C., barracks on a 24/7 basis.
Among the Marine tenants in line for CenturyLink support are the Navy Criminal Investigations Service (NCIS), the FBI and the Marine Helicopter Squadron One, which provides helicopter support to the president.
The new contract "follows two previous procurements for these services to Marine Corps Base Quantico," CenturyLink said in a press release, and continues more than 12 years of company support with the Marines at Quantico.
